Whistleblowing has been recognized as an effective way to deal with illegal activities within the organization. Similar to other reputable organizations, PT Kimia Farma Trading & Distribution (KFTD) has an established whistleblowing system (WBS). This system has many benefits, including anti-bribery prevention.
How Does the WBS Work?
The company has prepared a specific form that a whistleblower can fill out to report any bribery and fraud cases. The person can then submit the written form via email or WhatsApp to the super admin. The admin will forward the submission to the Ethics Committee upon receiving it.
Based on the evidence provided by the whistleblower, the committee decides whether to process the report further. The committee will form an investigation to collect more evidence, which includes interviewing witnesses if necessary.ย
The accused has the right to reject the case. The person can also provide their own defenses, mitigating potential legal issues that potentially occur in KFTD. Authorities will make the decision by the end of the investigation.ย
This sophisticated system protects the whistleblower, who can remain anonymous throughout the investigation. It also encourages other company employees to report any irregularities they encounter in their jobs.ย
Whistleblowing Benefits Organization
There are various reasons why whistleblowing is favored by many organizations across the globe. In addition to preventing bribery and fraud, it raises employees’ awareness of unethical and illegal practices within the company. These employees then take an active stance in improving the companyโs culture.
Moreover, whistleblowing prevents the issue from escalating. It keeps the issue within the circle of all related parties. This makes the problem-solving process more focused and results in better decision-making by authorities. It also prevents the issue from leaking out outside of the organization.
KFTD has repeatedly asserted its commitment to nurturing the Whistle Blowing System. Under the umbrella of Kimia Farma Group (working with the Corruption Eradication Commission), employees are provided with other modalities, such as wealth reporting education, to prevent organizational bribery and fraud.
